Bonus round: the fine print
Privacy Policy
The short version
CouchClash has no accounts, no ads and no third-party analytics, and we never sell data. The game itself runs on your iPhone and your Wi-Fi: player names, avatars and answers stay on the host's phone and never reach us. We only store what the online features need, tied to a random ID rather than to you.
The anonymous ID
The first time CouchClash opens, it creates a random identifier and keeps it in your iPhone's Keychain. It is not your name, email, phone number or Apple ID, and it is not used for advertising. Our servers use it to remember what this install may do: how many free AI packs are left, what you've bought, and which packs you've written.
AI quiz packs
When you write a pack, the topic you type is sent to our server and to Anthropic, the AI provider that writes and fact-checks the questions. The finished pack is stored on our server so it appears in your library; only the install that made it can see it. Please don't put personal information in a topic.
Anthropic processes topics to provide the service under its commercial terms, which do not allow it to train its models on them.
Purchases and CouchClash+
Apple handles every payment; we never see your card or Apple ID. When you buy a pack or subscribe, the app sends us Apple's signed record of that transaction (product, transaction number, dates, and whether it is active or refunded). Apple also notifies our server about renewals, cancellations and refunds. We verify those records with Apple's certificates and use them only to give you what you paid for.
Fraud prevention
To protect purchases and AI packs from abuse, the app uses Apple's App Attest service, which lets our server check that requests come from the genuine CouchClash app on a real Apple device. The app also checks for signs that the device has been modified (jailbroken) and tells our server if so. Neither check reveals who you are.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, we store your device's push token and time zone so seasonal messages (new holiday packs, CouchClash+ offers) arrive at a sensible local time. We record whether a notification was opened and whether a game started soon after, to learn which messages are useful. Turn notifications off anytime in Settings; we stop sending, and the token stops working.
Feedback and problem reports
If you send feedback (for example after shaking your phone), we store your message with basic diagnostics: app and iOS version, device model, and the quiz and question on screen if you chose to attach it.
Playing on your Wi-Fi
CouchClash asks for Local Network access so players can find and join the game hosted on your iPhone. Players join through a web page served by the host's phone on your network. Names, avatars, answers and scores live on that phone for the length of the game and are not sent to us.
How long we keep data
- Your written packs and your pack allowance: while you use the app, and up to 24 months after the install was last active.
- Purchase records: as long as needed to provide what you bought and to meet tax and accounting rules.
- Push tokens: until notifications are turned off, the token expires, or 12 months of inactivity.
- Feedback: up to 24 months.
Where data is processed
Our servers run on Cloudflare's network, and data may be processed in the United States and other countries where Cloudflare and Anthropic operate. We use these providers only to run CouchClash.
Children
CouchClash is a family game, and Kids mode writes kid-friendly questions. The app doesn't ask anyone for personal information, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information (for example in feedback), email us and we will delete it.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us what we hold about your install, or ask us to delete it, by emailing support@playcouchclash.com. Because we don't know who you are, include a feedback message sent from the app (shake your phone, then mention your request) so we can match it to your install. Deleting the app removes everything stored on your iPhone; the anonymous ID in the Keychain is removed when you also erase the device. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California) you may have further rights, which we will honor.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
